Is the data free to use?
Yes! All geographic data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL-1.0). You are free to share, modify, and use the data for personal, educational, and commercial purposes. Attribution is required under ODbL-1.0.
How often is the data updated?
We update our database regularly to reflect changes in country borders, new cities, administrative divisions, and population figures. Major updates occur quarterly.
Can I download the entire database?
Yes! You can download the entire database from our GitHub repository or use our Export Tool at export.countrystatecity.in for custom exports in multiple formats.
What if I find incorrect information?
Please report any data inaccuracies through our Update Tool at manager.countrystatecity.in or open an issue on our GitHub repository. We review all submissions and update our database accordingly.
Do you have an API?
Yes, we offer a RESTful API at countrystatecity.in for accessing country, state, and city data programmatically. Full documentation is available at countrystatecity.in.
How many countries are in the database?
We have data for all 250 countries and territories recognized by the UN, ISO, and other international organizations, including 5,038 states/provinces and over 151K+ cities.
Can I contribute to the project?
We welcome contributions! You can submit data corrections through our Update Tool at manager.countrystatecity.in, or contribute code through our GitHub repository at github.com/dr5hn/countries-states-cities-database.
Is there an NPM package available?
Yes! We offer an official JavaScript/TypeScript package @countrystatecity/countries on NPM for easy integration into your projects.
